Description
The objective is to teach students to identify empathy in different contexts, at a personal level and at the European level. They study what is the EU and how it works and learn what the European Union brings to them, it helps them become active citizens in the promotion of democratic values and fundamental rights.

Strengths:
- Development of self-awareness through the values of the EU
- Reinforcement of empathy on different levels
- Interaction and free expression of each pupil
- Development of creative, communicative/digital and social skills

Weaknesses:
- Some students may feel ill-at-ease to talk about their personal experience

Lesson Plan
1-The students first discover what the notion of empathy, then, in groups, they describe their experience of a situation where they experienced empathy towards someone or someone experienced empathy towards them. (15 minutes)

2-They share their personal experience and answer the questions of the class. The teacher lists the different examples on the board. (20 minutes)

3-Students play the quiz to discover what the EU brings to their daily lives. (15 minutes)

4- Students study the article below about the COVID crisis and Europe's lack of empathy towards migrants. (30 minutes)

5- Students summarize what they have learned empathy at the heart of European values (5 minutes).

Assessment
The teacher can assess the synthesis and the interactions between the students to highlight that they understand the notions of empathy on the European level.
