Debate on Holocaust (Romania)

Description of the activity carried out
The lesson is about Holocaust during World War II, and the lesson is starting with a text, a poem actually written by a preacher, a poem that addresses the issue of those who did not get involved, who did not help the Jews during those times. And this was the main cause that led to events out of control, to the loss of rights and liberties for all humanity not only for the Jewish people. The class is divided into two groups and will have a debate on this issue. One group will be made of the so-called “by-standers”- those who will not get involved in helping the Jews and the second group will be the “up-standers”- those who will get involved, taking risks. The pupils will negotiate with each other within their group and then, after finding the best arguments, there will be a debate between the groups on “why is it good to be bystanders or up standers” from their points of view.
