Description
The Pikas method is a philosophy that implies a radical change of posture: a non-blaming approach. It is not a question of identifying who is responsible and to what degree, the only objective is to stop bullying.
It is a matter of dealing with the problem together, working as a team (involvement of the head teacher, several adults, teachers, administrative staff, educational supervisors). The director ensures continuity when the situation requires it.
Strengths of the method :
- Establishment of a climate of trust (teacher/students/director/parents)
- caring, and listening to the one who is not well
- search for solutions to stop harassment
It is an effective method that makes the student grow up more in the face of the punishment.
Weaknesses or limitations of the method:
-When a "bully" continues to harass: parents will be immediately contact by the head teacher and they are invited to contact a psychologist, for example.
After two rounds of interviews, if none of the alleged bullies recognizes that there is suffering in X, another solution must be found.
This method is based on empathy and the search for solutions to get out of a conflictual relationship.

Lesson Plan
The method consists of several steps:
- support for the victim
- one-on-one meetings with each presumed bully
- meetings with the victim
- follow-up phases
Individual interviews are very short (10 minutes) for bullies. They can be more longer for the victim.
1) An adult conducts the interview with the target, collects what he or she has to say, makes him or her feel at ease, reassures him or her about the absence of potential reprisals and asks him or her to observe what is going to happen until the next interview.
Bullies are received by an adult who expresses concern about the situation and is looking for solutions. The adult first asks if the bully has noticed anything and asks what he or she can do. The bully makes two commitments that he or she must keep until the next interview.
2) A point is made at the next interview.
The parents of the bullies are not informed but the system is known to all the teams and the families.
Follow-up is ensured. Interviews are recorded in a follow-up notebook and more or less regular individual meetings can be scheduled over time. The main teacher and the teaching group are informed.

Assessment
The return to a calm situation shows that the students reacted positively to the method and understood that their behaviour had negative effects.
The non-blaming method allows the students to become aware of the suffering of another student, aware of his or her responsibilities and to find, through encouragement, solutions to get out of a relationship based on fear and disrespect for the other.
